Capturing content at the Wounds UK Annual Conference

The Project

Studio 53 were tasked with creating short but impactful interviews with key opinion leaders and delegates who were attending the Wounds UK Annual Conference in Harrogate.

Each video was to be edited onsite for release on the client's social media channels, whilst the event was happening. Time restraints, a very noisy environment and super quick turnarounds made for a very busy few days!

We also made the interview set a feature of the conference: by running our live camera feeds and iMacs through our vision mixer, we could show passers by the interview currently being recorded or previously recorded and edited interviews on a large TV screen just off to the side of the booth.

Challenges: Time restraints

Each interviewee had very limited time on their hands, as they would be presenting at seminars run at the conference. This meant that our setup had to be flexible, and our timekeeping on top form.

Shooting in 4K on two separate camera angles meant that we would be able to edit around any potential stumbles by the interviewees, without the need for retakes.

For interviewees who would be giving a short round-up presentation during their filming, we provided a teleprompter setup displaying their slides. This meant that we could maintain crucial eye contact with the viewer without the subject having to refer to notes or a laptop off to the side of frame.

Challenges: A VERY noisy environment

This was a busy conference, and our interview booth was in the heart of the action.

A combination of microphones (lapel and overhead boom) allowed for a natural audio blend. Then when it came to editing, we would tweak any unwanted or extraneous noise to our liking.

And finally, camera placement was important. Allowing the backdrop of each video to be the actual conference in motion meant that the viewer wouldn't feel that anything in the video was amiss. 

Challenges: FAST turnarounds

Each video would be shown on the client's various social media channels whilst the event was still going on. This meant that as soon as we called "cut" on an interview, the footage would be whisked away to our editing team for them to start working their magic.

Pre-planning and a concise workflow was essential. Ahead of the event, we created numerous branded editing assets which could easily be swapped in and out of each video as was required.

Then, the client would watch on our easy to use review platform; offering any tweaks before sending the final product out to the world.
